Support for Families
Families may be vulnerable to problems requiring legal assistance for their resolution.
NPLS gives priority to advocacy which supports the integrity, safety and well-being of the family.
NPLS provides a full range of services in all counties for:
- Child custody disputes in which a party faces potential loss of custody either through court action brought by another party or by self help
- A parent is denied all meaningful contact with a child except when a court order bars that contact.
- A case in which failure of a person to establish or modify a custody or visitation order would pose a clear and immediate danger to a child.
NPLS may provide some assistance, depending on the county for:
- Child support
- Juvenile dependency and delinquency
- Termination of parental rights
- Divorce (limited to no assets, no fault cases)
NPLS provides self-help material and community workshops on rights in family matters and is available to train advocates and community organizations.
NPLS provides no services for adoption.
