NPLS is committed to cultivating a new generation of public interest lawyers. We are seeking law students for law clerkships (Interns) at each of our offices during the summer and school year (NPLS prefers students who have work-study funding). We have a history of students working in our offices, including volunteers, clinical placement students, work-study participants, and students with paid fellowships.
Student interns work under the supervision of a staff attorney and assist NPLS staff in screening, counseling, and representing clients. Interns often work on projects and cases that have a wide-ranging and lasting impact on our client communities. Our summer interns generally work full-time, with an expansive training in all of our practice areas, at the beginning of their tenure. Students with us during the calendar school year will have the ability to schedule their work around their class work, usually working 10-15 hours per week.
Interns have received funding from Equal Justice America, the National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL), as well as Public Interest Law Foundations from a number of universities throughout the United States. Due to our limited financial resources, NPLS prefers law students who are eligible for public interest grants, clinical credits, or who are willing to volunteer.
Application Deadline Process: Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis year-round until all positions are filled. For consideration for summer employment, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply no later than March 1st to receive full consideration.
