The 2017 Class of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Interns recently completed their summer of service. NPLS hosted Emma Jobinpicard at our Williamsport office. The class was honored at a reception held July 25, 2017. The featured speaker at the reception was Sharon Lopez, Esq., President of the PA Bar Association and a member of the first MLK class of interns twenty-five years ago.
The Monroe County Bar Association has presented another $80,000 contribution to North Penn Legal Services taking the four-year funding total to nearly $320,000. Funds presented will continue to subsidize the Stroudsburg office, dedicated to providing free civil legal services to low income families, costs for professional staff July 2017 through June 2018.
At least 150 low-income individuals with civil legal needs will again get the help they need thanks to a $60,000 gift from the Northampton County Bar Association to North Penn Legal Services. 2017 marks the fifth consecutive year that the NCBA membership has demonstrated its belief in the importance of civil legal aid in Northampton County by funding a full time staff attorney at NPLS. The attorney funded by this major gift will focus on a wide variety of legal issues affecting low-income people.

A forum was held on April 21st to provide education on fair housing law and how to enforce these important rights.
